Stop 10 of 14 To the dispenser
The Chilled-Water Reservoir
| Blamed | Found |
|---|---|
| The dispenser valve, because the water is warm | A tank emptied by a large draw; the Classic guide allows several hours for a refill to cool. |
| The reservoir, because the flow is slow | A filter due for replacing; the Classic guide lists slow flow among its signs. |
When the complaint is lukewarm water from the dispenser, what we usually find is a reservoir that has simply been drained: a few jugs filled in a row, and the refill has not had time to chill. Less often the flow is weak as well, and then a tired filter or low pressure is starving the tank. Sub-Zero Repair Bothell checks both before blaming the valve, (206) 202-2799.
- Chilled-water reservoir, in one line
- The tank inside the refrigerator section that holds drinking water until it reaches refrigerator temperature, about 40 oz on the Classic built-ins. Sub-Zero Repair Bothell looks at it when water pours warm or slow.

Where the cold water comes from
Dispensed water is not chilled as it passes. It waits in a tank inside the refrigerator section and takes on that section’s temperature; the Model 590 guide places its container there too. Draw more than the tank holds and later glasses come through warmer. A thin stream slows the refill: the filter first, then house pressure, which a plumber measures, then the valve.
When the tank itself needs attention
Water inside the refrigerator section with no spill to explain it can come from the tank or its fittings. No band on our price list covers that work, so it is quoted after the diagnosis.
Check it yourself, or call
| Check | Who | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Smaller draws, then a few hours' wait | You | Separates a drained tank from a cooling fault. |
| Filter indicator, and the filter turned fully home | You | Only where there is one; the Model 590 and many other series have none. |
| Tank, fittings and supply inspected | Technician | For a leak or a restriction; not an owner job. |
| Anything behind a panel, and any wiring | Technician | Stop there and call Sub-Zero Repair Bothell on (206) 202-2799. |
What it costs
Service call, including the diagnosis $89
$89 gets a technician to the unit and pays for finding the fault; agree to the repair and that $89 is taken back off its price.
Questions about the chilled-water reservoir
- How long does a Sub-Zero take to chill dispenser water?
- On the Classic built-ins the reservoir holds about 40 ounces, and Sub-Zero allows several hours for it to reach refrigerator temperature after the first fill or after a lot of water has been drawn. Warm water straight after filling jugs is expected. Warm water all day long is worth a call to Sub-Zero Repair Bothell, (206) 202-2799.
- What should happen the first time the dispenser is used?
- Sub-Zero asks for a three-minute purge of the system and tank, which clears air and debris from new plumbing. On the Classic, WATER is then held until water flows, as it can take up to 60 seconds to fill the reservoir. After that the tank needs a few hours before the water comes out properly cold.
